Third Annual Bouteloua LitART Fest Features Aimee Nezhukumatathil, Local Authors and Artists

The Linden Review, in partnership with the University of Nebraska at Omaha English Department and Creative Nonfiction Program, the Moonrise Gallery, and Glacier Creek Preserve, is proud to announce the details of this year’s Bouteloua LitArt Fest, a celebration of local authors and artists.

The event will be held at Glacier Creek Preserve in Bennington from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, 2024. The event is free to attend and open to the public, and complimentary food and drink will be provided.

Aimee Nezhukumatathil will be the keynote speaker for the event. Nezhukumatathil is the author of two best-selling illustrated essay collections, Bite by Bite: Nourishments and Jamborees, and World Of Wonders: In Praise Of Fireflies, Whale Sharks, and Other Astonishments, chosen as Barnes and Noble’s Book of the Year. She has also published four poetry collections, and she co-authored the chapbook Lace and Pyrite with poet Ross Gay. Her writing has also appeared in The New York Times Magazine, ESPN, Ploughshares, American Poetry Review, and The Paris Review.

The event will kick off at 2:00 p.m. with a panel of local authors: Aaron Scobie, Moises Delgado, Lydia Kang, and Teresa Carmody. Aimee Nezhukumatathil’s talk is scheduled to begin at 4:30.

Aaron Scobie teaches in the writing program at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Scobie’s writing appears in Olney Magazine, Goat’s Milk Magazine, The Free State Review, and others.

Moisés Delgado received a BA and BFA from the University of Nebraska – Omaha, and an MFA in creative nonfiction from the University of Arizona. He is the nonfiction editor for The Adroit Journal. His stories and essays have been published in Passages North, Gulf Coast, Pinch, Puerto del Sol, SmokeLong Quarterly, Split Lip, Gigantic Sequins, and elsewhere. He was a recipient of the 2024 Individual Artist Fellowship from the Nebraska Arts Council.

Lydia Kang is an author of young adult fiction, adult fiction and non-fiction, and poetry. She graduated from Columbia University and New York University School of Medicine, completing her residency and chief residency at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. She is a practicing physician and associate professor of Internal Medicine who has gained a reputation for helping fellow writers achieve medical accuracy in fiction. Her poetry and non-fiction have been published in JAMA, The Annals of Internal Medicine, Canadian Medical Association Journal, Journal of General Internal Medicine, and Great Weather for Media.

Teresa Carmody (she/they) writes fiction, creative nonfiction, inter-arts collaborations, and hybrid forms. Their books include Maison Femme: a fiction (2015), The Reconception of Marie (2020), and A Healthy Interest in the Lives of Others (2025), forthcoming from Autofocus Books. She currently teaches in the Writer’s Workshop at University of Nebraska at Omaha, and in UNO’s low-residency MFA program.

The event will also feature prairie walks and an exhibition of art from local artists, curated and sponsored by Moonrise Gallery. Visitors can take in the rolling hills and the countryside scenery at the 525-acre preserve, part of University of Nebraska at Omaha's extended campus. The location features several trails, some of which wind through the 140-acre Allwine Prairie Tract, a restored tallgrass prairie created in 1970.
